“Arggggh” Jae groaned, he was rolling on the grass, curled up into a ball, he gasped for breath and saliva dribbled down his chin.
Moments earlier, Derek and his cronies had led Jae to some strange abandoned Park.
Although Jae had been studying at Fair Academy, for a year, he hadn’t travelled much in the area around the school. He usually only went straight to the Academy and then afterwards he hopped on the train, for his hour-long journey back to Twicking. So, Jae had no idea where he was. He’d lost count of the streets they had walked down or the turns they had made.
All he knew was that soon they were in front of an abandoned park. There were padlocks on the rusting iron Gate entrance. Through the rusted iron bars, Jae could see grass that was so overgrown it looked like the place hadn’t been tended to in years. The park looked large, so large that Jae couldn’t see the end of it. Since it was getting closer to winter the sky was getting darker quickly, and there seemed to be no lights in this park. As the shadows got longer and the sun slowly disappeared the Park appeared even more creepy.
Derek had pulled the gate off its hinges, it was so rusty it just came off the ground, and Jae had been tossed through the gate by Sam, landing him in the overgrown grass. Before he could get his bearings Derek had kicked him in the gut.
“One little kick and you’re rolling on the ground, pathetic” laughed Derek.
His mates chuckled.
Jae’s fingers trembled as he brought out his inhaler and took a deep breath.
“Wow, you’re really pathetic Jae, and yet you think you can get the teacher to tell us all to ‘look towards you for inspiration’ wow Miss Heather must have it fucking hard for you. For some reason, all the girls have a thing for tall spineless rats. Don’t think I didn’t notice Steph trying to help you out earlier.”
Derek kicked him again, “You really piss me off.”
Derek looked back at two of his mates who were just hanging around at the back. One was a muscular kid named Mickey who had a neck as thick as a tree trunk, the other was a lanky boy with greasy black hair named Blair.
“Mickey, Blair, kick this little shit around, I can’t be asked to touch this trash.”
Blair looked a little reluctant, he was the type that liked to suck up and hang with the popular delinquent crowd but didn’t like getting his hands dirty with actual violence. Mickey, on the other hand, was ready to go.
Derek had barely finished his sentence before Mickey had grabbed Jae, hoisting him up by the collar and punching him in the face.
Jae had barely gotten over the beating Derek had given him at lunch.
Mickey’s punch caused him to bite his tongue. Blood sprayed out of his mouth and he felt two of his back teeth chip, he’d never been punched so hard before.
He didn’t even have time to process what had happened before Mickey used his knee to punch him in the gut. “Agggh” Jae whined.
Derek sighed as he brought out his pack of cigarettes and a lighter, “Don’t hit him in the face too hard, hit him in the body, not in the obvious places or else his Aunt and Uncle might make a fuss again. We can’t be getting suspended in our last year, now can we lads.”
“My bad,” said Mickey as he punched Jae in the gut. Jae gasped, his eyesight was becoming blurry and he could feel himself slipping from consciousness, everything just hurt. As Mickey punched him again, he found his head dropping and succumbing to the darkness of his sub-consciousness.
As he faded away he heard Mickey shouting, “Hey I think he fainted.”
Jae woke up in shock as ice-cold water was poured on his head.
He was still in the park. Jae didn’t know how long he’d been unconscious, but it was Dark now. He could barely see anything, and he could only make out the figures of the other boys who were holding their phones and using the torch application. He heard the “ka-ching ka-ching” sound of someone’s camera. They were taking pictures of him.
“See I told you he just needed some water to wake him up,” Derek laughed. He was still tipping the contents of his water bottle on Jae’s head.
Jae shivered and sneezed, he felt oddly exposed and cold. As if he wasn’t wearing any clothes!
As his eyes adjusted to the dark he realised he was stark naked. He had been stripped all the way down to his underwear, even his dick was hanging out for them all to see. The only thing still on him were his socks.
As he squirmed he realised he had been tied up to some tree. When had they stripped him, when had he been tied, when did they even get the rope?
Derek looked down at Jae maliciously, “I thought of the best way to keep your mouth shut. Wouldn’t it be bad if photos of you having your dick out got leaked online, damn your life would be over” he chuckled.
“We could sell them to some people,” said Sam, “And before you know it your face will be all over those spam gay porn ads.”
“He’d probably enjoy it,” said Derek, “I heard from Steph that you’re a bisexual, he probably wants to be in Gay Porn.”
“Lol” the other boys jeered.
Jae had never been so angry in his life. He knew he shouldn’t shout at them, not in these circumstances, but he yelled “Being Bisexual isn’t ‘eww’ or ‘gross’ and nor does it mean I want to be in Gay porn only idiotic pricks like you would think that. And do you think I won’t go to the police about this, this is a crime-”
He barely finished shouting before he felt a burning slap go across his already bruised face. Derek pulled his hair and forced his face up to look at him.
“Are you trying to tell us what to do you fag?” he asked, his expression was ice-cold and dangerous. Jae shook, he was very scared.
He could take beatings but being dragged to some weird place, tied up, and even stripped filled him with dread, he didn’t know what Derek was capable of or what he would do to him.
Jae felt tears form at the corner of his eyes.
“Why are you doing this to me?” his voice broke, “What did I ever do to you? You’re popular, y…you’re dating the best girl in school, your Mum is the headmistress and your Dad is some rich CEO, right. Wh…why bother bullying me? Why me?” Tears streamed down his face.
He felt so weak and vulnerable. He had never been so scared before, he hated this feeling of weakness.
“Aww” Derek mocked him, “Look he’s crying like a baby, ‘why me’ blah blah blah, why not? The first day you started you pissed me off, and you kept pissing me off, and you’re pissing me off even more today. If you have the power to make someone that pisses you off squirm, and feel weak and make yourself powerful than why not. That’s how the world works Jae, people with power get to do what they like.”
Jae trembled but he didn’t want this arsehole to win, “You see the world in a fucked up way” he sneered, “but I guess that’s what life at home must be like, you probably get slapped around and made weak all the time there, so you thought you’d take it out on someone else. All bullies are the same, you’re nothing special.”
He spat a mixture of blood and saliva at Derek.
“The same goes for all of you” Jae shouted, “You’re all the pathetic ones, taking out your dumb frustration on someone else to cope with your shit lives. I hope you’re proud of yourself. You can harass me as much as you want now, but you’re not going to get away with this, I’m going to report all you dicks.”
“Wow this piece of trash just spat on me,” Derek said with a tinge of surprise on his cold voice. He stepped away from Jae, “Hey pass me his blazer.”
One of Derek’s lackey’s handed over Jae’s blazer and Derek used it to wipe his face.
“You know I thought I had made you realise your place by now. I was going to let you go but now I’m thinking differently. You’ve really pissed me off.” he growled.
“Do you know what place this is, you probably don’t. So I’ll enlighten you. Ten years ago Gallow’s Park used to be a nice little place, a kind of popular park. But then a local little girl went missing, her body was found dumped lying in the grass near the swings a few days later, all torn up. The investigation went nowhere and local people started avoiding the park so the council closed the place off, they promised they were going to build some new houses here but that never happened. This park just ended up being abandoned and that’s when the homeless people started moving in here, drug addicts and all kinds of perverts.”
Derek laughed, “People have gone missing near this place, girls have been raped by some of the fuckers living in this park. The police tried clearing it out a few times but they just came right back. We’re near the entrance, but it’s late now it’s only a matter of time before some weirdos come by.”
“Originally, I was planning on making you fight one of the homeless people, but then you passed out. Now that you’ve said all that I’ve got a better idea, we’re just gonna leave you here all naked and tied. Let’s see how you cope with that.”
Derek turned to his mates, “Let’s get out of here” he said, “Throw his clothes in some bush and we can go get some food at Burger King, on me of course.”
Most of Derek’s mates agreed, but Blair got cold feet. “Are you sure, Derek, I mean they say the sicko that murdered the girl still hangs around this park. He was never caught, what if Jae gets murdered than that’s kind of on us.”
“How is that on us?” Derek tilted his head a dangerous glare in his eyes, “We’re not murdering him, we were just hanging out with Jae, it’s not our fault some pervert molested him or murdered him.” Derek patted Blair on the shoulder, “But if you’re so concerned buddy you’re more than welcome to join Jae.”
Blair shivered and laughed uneasily, “I was just joking, let’s go.”
As they turned to leave Derek said, “See you at school on Monday.” he said with a twisted grin.
“Wait! No, you can’t just leave me here!” Jae shouted but none of them even looked back. Soon Jae lost sight of them.
Jae struggled but they had tied the rope tightly. He was now left in some freaky park, in the dark, with no clothes.
“Fuck my life”
